Joe Hernandez — President and CEO, Innovative Biosensors, Inc.
Mr. Hernandez obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and graduate degrees in Molecular Genetics and Business Administration from The University of Florida. He has been published in several highly-respected scientific journals and presented at numerous scientific meetings.

He has held senior level marketing, sales and business development positions at Digene Corporation, Affymetrix, Inc., and Merck. Mr. Hernandez has successfully launched numerous products in the pharmaceutical, research and diagnostic markets. He has in-depth knowledge of market research, competitive analysis and business development.

William W. Brooke — Executive Vice President, Harbert Management Corporation; Managing Partner, Harbert Venture Partners, LLC
Mr. Brooke is Executive Vice President of Harbert Management Corporation and Managing Partner of Harbert Venture Partners. He is also a Partner of the Harbinger/Aurora Venture Funds and serves on their Investment Committee and Members' Advisory Committee. He has been advising start-up companies for more than twenty years, and has also served on the boards of AV Holdings (Atherotech), Visador, Nationwide Homes, Emageon and Maxcyte.

As Executive Vice President and Board member of Harbert for nearly fifteen years, Mr. Brooke initially served as the Firm's General Counsel and later as its Chief Operating Officer. Before joining Harbert in 1991, he was founder and managing partner of Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff and Brandt, a law firm in Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Brooke is a guest lecturer on venture capital for the MBA programs at the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama in Birmingham and currently serves as Chairman of the Southeast Life Sciences Association. He holds a degree in law (J.D.) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Alabama.

Mark Grovic — Founding Partner and Managing Director, New Markets Growth Fund
Mr. Grovic is a Founding Partner and Managing Director of the New Markets Growth Fund (NMGF). Mr. Grovic serves on the Board of Directors of Innovative Biosensors, Lightningcast, and Artifact Software and is a board observer for BioSET and BDMetrics.

Prior to co-founding the NMGF, Mr. Grovic was with Small Enterprise Assistance Funds (SEAF) as its Portfolio Manager. Mr. Grovic was based in Tallinn, Estonia, from 1997 to 1999 as Director of the Baltic Small Equity Fund, managed by SEAF, where he sat on the Board for ten portfolio companies in industries that included biotechnology and medical equipment.

From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Grovic was Co-Founder of the Templeton Emerging Europe Fund, a $60 million Central European private equity fund, and a Principal of the Fund Manager, Templeton Direct Advisors, a wholly owned direct investment subsidiary of the Franklin Templeton Group.

Mr. Grovic received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his J.D. from Georgetown University. He has graduate work in accounting and finance at George Washington University and Pace University.

Joseph Del Guercio — Principal, CNF Investments
Prior to joining CEI, Mr. Del Guercio was at LPL Financial Services, a Boston and San Diego based independent broker dealer, where he
was responsible for strategic planning, new product development, and acquisitions. Prior to LPL, Mr. Del Guercio was at Robertson Stephens and Goldman Sachs, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, private and public equity financings, and restructurings. Mr. Del Guercio serves on the Board of Ecutel Systems, Vital Sensors, Verax Biomedical, and Alfred Street Partners. Mr. Del Guercio is also a Board Observer with Lipomics Technologies and Overture Technologies. Mr. Del Guercio has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. from Boston College.

Cole Van Nice — Partner, Chart Venture Partners
Mr. Van Nice is a Partner at Chart Venture Partners, an early-stage technology venture capital fund focused on homeland defense and security sectors. He joined Chart in 2006 after a decade of experience in international venture capital, private equity, and investment banking. He was previously Vice President of Darby Overseas Investments, the global Emerging Markets private equity and venture capital arm of Franklin Templeton, where he co-founded the firm's technology venture capital business and contributed to the firm's growth in AUM from $250 million to over $1.2 billion. From 2001-2006, Mr. Van Nice co-led Darby's early-stage investment activity with a special focus on Brazil and China, and served on the Board of Directors of several successful technology start-ups. Prior to Darby, Mr. Van Nice worked in investment banking and equity research, focusing on international telecommunications, media, and technology sectors for Santander Investment Securities Inc. Mr. Van Nice holds a B.A. from Washington and Lee University and is a CFA charterholder.

Jorg Riesmeier, Ph.D. — Partner, LSP
Mr. Jorg Riesmeier, Ph.D. is responsible for LSP’s US office in Boston/Cambridge, MA. Jorg serves on the supervisory boards of Efficas (Boulder, CO), Pasteuria Bioscience (Alachua, FL), Asoyia (Iowa City, IA) and Attune (San Francisco, CA). Before joining LSP as a partner in 2006, he worked at Burrill & Company in San Francisco. There, he was seconded from Bayer with responsibility for managing Burrill’s AgBio and Nutraceutical funds. Before working with Burrill & Company, Jorg was at Bayer, where he played a leading role in R&D, business development and strategy focusing on the identification and implementation of New Businesses.

In the mid 1990s, Jorg co-founded and was CEO and President of PlantTec Biotechnology, Potsdam, Germany, which he sold to Aventis CropScience in 2000. As a scientist with the Max-Planck-Institute in Golm, Germany and the IGF Institut für Genbiologische Forschung in Berlin, Germany, Jorg focused on molecular plant biology and physiology. A German native, Jorg has a PhD and a Masters degree in biochemistry from the Free University in Berlin. He has authored numerous articles in leading scientific publications, including EMBO and PNAS.

Dr. Caroline Popper — President and Co-founder, Popper and Co.
Dr. Caroline Popper, a bioscience executive, was appointed to the board in December 2007. Caroline, the president and co-founder of Popper and Company, has 17 years of hands-on biotech/life sciences operating experience. An internist and pathologist, she combines this perspective with that gained from managing a wide spectrum of life sciences businesses in diagnostics, devices and drug discovery. Her business management experience in both Fortune 500 and start-up settings and extensive track record creating strategic and business partnerships in the biotech arena is key to the perspective she provides to her clients. In a 10-year career at Becton Dickinson (NYSE: BDX), Caroline’s global responsibilities included clinical affairs, marketing, strategy, and business development. She was the founding General Manager of BDGene; a start-up focused, with its partner Millennium Pharmaceuticals, on development of novel cancer diagnostics. From 2000 to 2002, she was the Chief Business Officer for MDS Proteomics, a drug discovery company with operations in the US, Canada and Europe.
